The Finch Difference Optimizes Dryer Performance!
Pennsylvania, US – December 13, 2024 – Why work with Finch Manufacturing & Technology to help you through your Winter Outage? Our record and years of experience say a lot. For over 165 years in the Service of Excellence, our duty to our customers and our legacy has been uncompromising quality and a commitment to real solutions. The Finch Commitment or the Finch Difference to our Customers includes our Quality parts and expertise that ensures the optimal performance of your system and its reliability!
Your Winter outage is a great time for an inspection or to replace worn parts. Finch Manufacturing offers detailed system inspections that cover your kiln and dryer’s performance from inlet to outlet. Using years of experience and best practices, the Finch engineering team looks at all aspects of the kiln from alignment, component wear, operational efficiency, and throughput. Finch Manufacturing can and will recommend cost-effective improvements such as upgraded seal or drive systems and auto-lubrication solutions that ensure your parts are lubricated at the right times with the right amount of grease, extending your systems reliability and life.
The Finch engineer will even review your spares and discuss what is really needed and the different options based on the need, cost, and lead-time. Missing the spares to replace critical parts is a common mistake that the Finch team sees at sites. During an inspection, the Finch Manufacturing engineer will review your spares with you and verify that they are good to use. We have seen sites in need of spares and upon “finding” them, they discover they are worn out, damaged, or not the right size. We understand spares appear expensive and do not increase throughput with the use of your limited capital. But, when needed and not available, their up-front cost is a fraction of the lost revenue and emergency replacement cost. For one customer with numerous sites, Finch Manufacturing standardized their trunnions and created a plan where a few spares can be used between all their sites, saving them 100,000’s of capital dollars.
Mike Brown, COO of Finch Manufacturing & Technology, LLC says “No spares or damaged spares is one of the Five Most Common Mistakes we see when visiting sites. This lack of planning or oversight can result in an operational disaster. Finch supports our customers and provides real solutions and options, but no matter how quickly we do the impossible, like fabricating a trunnion in 36 hours. Down time is very expensive!”
Finch Manufacturing has created a refurbishment program for trunnions and thrust rollers. This service costs a fraction of new components. It is now common for our customers to send their replaced trunnions to Finch to be refurbished to the same standards as new Finch trunnions and become excellent cost-effective spares.
System or site inspections by Finch Manufacturing are a great way to ensure optimal performance by making sure the alignment is correct and not improperly wearing down your trunnions, gears, tires, or trust rollers. Failing to have a proper alignment costs extra energy and eventually early replacement of parts and can be very hard on your drive system. The Finch Manufacturing engineer will work with you to determine when a grind and align is truly needed and make it part of your scheduled downtime such as your winter outage.
Once our customers undergo a system inspection, it routinely becomes a quarterly or biannual service. They realize the increase in efficiency and/or throughput and the extended reliability that results from their kilns running exactly as designed! For customers that schedule quarterly inspections, Finch Manufacturing provides shell thickness testing at critical points of your kiln or dryer at known wear areas at no additional cost. This shell thickness testing we provided one customer prevented a possible catastrophic event since we found a thin or very weak area in advance and were able to order the shell replacement section and install during their winter outage!
Site repair, replacement, or project supervision is a common service that Finch Manufacturing provides. Your dedicated Finch engineer, who knows your facility, provides the skill and knowledge to ensure your team replaces the part correctly and on schedule. Finch can even provide the installation team. Finch can provide this critical service at a very reasonable price since it can be scheduled for both party’s benefit.
Bob Zinnen, CEO of Finch Manufacturing & Technology, LLC says “Performing planned inspections and maintenance allows Finch and our customers to work together to optimize performance and save money. Emergency repairs are expensive, a strain on both parties, and it is harder on our customers financially.”
